The problem

This may be pushing an open door here, but recently I had a dispute with a company. I was dealing with the MD for that company, eventually the police were involved, but the issue I had wasn’t really about that, it was the fact that the person I had been dealing with had the same first name as my business partner. That bit will remain between my partner and I.

So, I needed to delete his contact from my autofill on Apple Mail. I know in Microsoft Office this is easily done, but not so much for Apple Mail. I found several solutions via Google.

The one that seemed to be the easiest is explained below.

The resolution

Device: MacBook Air

Software: Apple Mail

Guidance for MacBook Air, MacOS, Apple Mail

Click on Windows, then “previous recipients”:

An image showing where to access the Windows menu in Mac Mail getting to the previous recipients
MacMail previous recipients.

This will bring up:

Previous recipients window
Previous recipients window

Obviously, I have blurred the contacts to protect identities.

Highlight the contacts you want to remove:

Remove from list

Then click on Remove From List.

Job done, no more sending emails to someone you don’t want to by accident.
